Experience with the development of forage feeding equipment for large herds (more than 1500 milking cows) has encouraged us to develop a special very heavy duty machine to meet their continuous, high tonnage requirements. These farming operations require forage handling machines to function 300+ days of the year, dispersing up to 15 loads each day.

Our experience has led to designs with many special features (see below). The flared sides increase the heaped load carrying capabilities by some 18% over straight sides while keeping lower bin heights for convenient loading.

Axle systems: We have several axle systems depending on machine heights. All are robust. Over rough ground and borders (border dyke irrigation) the independently oscillating walking beam axles average out ground surfaces, reducing chassis and payload movement.

This photo shows a forage wagon fitted with an independent oscillating “walking beam” axle.

Standard side feed machines come with a 900mm wide PVK conveyer belt.

In the optional multi feed configuration high speed roller chain and bar conveyers have major advantages in handling straw, hay etc. They can be built to 1200mm widths and inclined to facilitate feed delivery into high sided troughs and “waste-not” feeders. (900mm above ground level). The roller chain and bar is shown in the photo above.

The conveyer can be hydraulically deployed on startup to assist wheel clearance when feeding into troughs. It retracts for maneuvering on tracks and through gateways.

All large machines come standard with heavy duty swivel tow-eyes.

Sides are 1.2mm thick stainless attached with ‘magna-lock’ fixings.

The flared sides give extra loading clearance and provide extra strength when loading with silage forks.

Chassis: These machines are constructed with a strong truss chassis and extra floor bracing to handle the impact of loading heavy bales.

All chassis steel is blasted to class 3 and treated with inorganic zinc epoxy paint and high build two pack eurethane finish coatings.

Various lighting packages including waterproof light emitting diodes are available.

Optional 10 tonne high quality load cells can be fitted and utilise a standard stock display being either our FX1 or FX21. This means the display unit can be used for other farm weighing or stock handling tasks.

Drive Systems are heavy duty gearboxes developed for this purpose. They are powered by top of the range high-torque motors and managed by the latest hydraulic sensing technology.

A wide array of flotation wheels and tyres can be used and prices as optional accessories with credits against the standard configuration. We are happy to advise on options that would suit your circumstance.

Hydraulically activated 4 wheel drum brakes are an option.

The floor scrapers are constructed of 13mm grade 80 trawl chain welded to high tensile steel bars.

All shafts have quality low wear and durable bearing systems. They are easily stripped and rebuilt for rapid maintenance and lowest time out of service. Shafts are solid 1045 grade steel.
